Skin PH - Do you know why it's important?

I have had many questions about skin PH and why its so important. So I decided to write a blog post about it.

PH stands for Potential Hydrogen, a measure of the element's activity in a substance.

Every part of the body not just your face has an ideal PH level. A PH scale goes from 1 to 14 with 7 being neutral, lower in acidic and higher in basic alkaline.

A skin's PH maintains the balance of acidity and alkalinity that protects us from germs, elements and toxic substances while keeping us hydrated and storing nutrients and minerals.

On a women face the ideal PH level is between a 4.5 and a 5.5 but you don't have to measure it to know or to have healthy skin. Your skins PH changes ad adapts constantly based on factors like sleep, nutrition, the environment, products and oils.

Signs you will have if your PH levels are off balance is acne, dryness and skin conditions like psoriasis.

Healthy every day habits are key to maintaining a good skin PH. Start by choosing a gentle skincare regimen, avoiding harsh cleansers and washing no more then twice a day, you want to keep some of that good oil on your skin. Give the skin nutrients and minerals that it needs by including veggie and fruits into your every day routine. I personally would try to eat as much dark leafy greens as possible, you want to boost those antioxidant levels!

Hydration! Your PH level needs this! Drinks water!! They say at least 8 glasses of water a day.

My skincare routine weekly & daily:

I use a face mask twice a week and depending on what my skin is doing will depend on what kind of mask I will use.

I also use a Vitamin C gentle scrub on my face twice a week.

I wash my face morning and night with a gentle cleanser.

I tone.

I apply an oil/water based serum.

I finish up with a moisturizer to sit on the surface of the skin making a barrier between make-up or my pillow.

Im going to get into serums and moisturizers and why they are so different on my next skincare blog post. I think its important for you to know and it can save you money in the long run as well.

I do change up my products every time I need a new bottle of something, I alternate by a few different companies that I love.

Eminence Organics

Murad

SkinCeuticals
